The Good News is . . .

Sixty two Irigueños (please see list below and you can spot the perennial suspects in the pics shown) beat the deadline originally set for July 30, 2010 to register for Magbinaydan 2011. The not so good news is that the raring and desiring 62 constitute just 31 percent of the 200 Magbinaydan registrants we have projected in our budget.

Shouldn’t this somewhat measured turnout compel us to think twice whether the suggestion of ogim Ruben Llagas – “walking the main Iriga drag, rather than having to ride a float” during the Tinagba festival which could cost us $3,000 - make some great economic as well as healthy sense?

Well, anyway, for the not so yearning (and maybe simply procrastinating), there’s the inevitable good one for them: the deadline to register for Magbinaydan 2011 has been extended through September 1, 2010. Please meet this new deadline because the success of our various community and humanitarian projects is principally based on registration turnout. Take note further that September 1, 2010 coincides with the closing date for turning in your ads for our souvenir program.

But wait, the enthusiasm for Magbinaydan 2011 of the Irigueños during the UNEP International Grand Reunion in Chicago a couple of weeks ago, which Josie and I attended to pitch for Magbinaydan, has been very inspiring and certainly mood-changing. Indeed it's one of the many things keeping us very confident and hopeful to reach our registration projection before the end of the new September deadline.

And by the way, UNEP Executive Vice President, Ms. Deli Alfelor-Tibi, has asked Magbinaydan to include in our schedule of events a special night to pay tribute to outstanding Mabinians and Unepians the University has chosen to recognize. That sounds really wonderful, doesn’t it?

Now, next week, to drum up more support and interest from Irigueños further North, Josie and I are set to travel to Canada to meet up with our many town mates there. I promise to get you posted of our Canadian trip next update.

Atcho Margallo, MB2011 Chair
